Kristina Orn

China, 1900

Kristina OrnKristina Orn is the most likely of those who, in love and mercy, would offer her life, where she, as a lamb among the wolves, sought to rescue some of China’s many unfortunate young girls. But where can you find a higher task than this, that a man can give himself, under all circumstances during a short life on earth?

Kristina Orn was born in Vastergotland, Sweden, on June 19, 1867. Her father was Grenadiern Orn; he and his wife both died about the time she left for China. After having gone through the seminary in 1887, Miss Orn became a teacher in Tollstad, Ostergotland, where she taught for about twelve years. When she was about 22 years old, she gave her heart to God. She then began to care deeply for the needs of others and longed to bring light to the heathen. In 1897 while teaching in Lillkyrka in Nirike, she received a call from Miss Klara Hall, telling of her desperate need to have an assistant in the work at the children’s home in the city of Pongola.

In January 1900, she arrived in Sharitsing, the goal in her journey. She studied the language successfully and because of her zeal and devotion, along with her dear character. She celebrated Christmas Eve at the Chinese inn, and that would be her last Christmas on earth.

She quickly became a good mother to many of China’s abandoned and defenseless little children.

We do not know where or how Kristina Orn and her comrade, Klara Hall, were murdered. A newspaper has informed that they fled in fear for their lives and were attacked and killed. That is all we know of their destiny, and it is uncertain that their graves will be found. May they rest in peace, and yet how rich they are. They possess the best of all, a “Well done, good and faithful servant.” In time, these saints shall be raised from the earth, gather their jewels and shine as the stars through eternity. And then we shall meet them who sleep in God, and whose graves have remained unknown to us. “Shall we all meet beyond the Jordan?”
