A Loaded Question

A few weeks ago I e-mailed 10 of our C&MA international ministry leaders one question: What are the most significant things God accomplished in your area in 2011 as a result of giving to the Great Commission Fund (GCF)? My hope was to compile a simple “top 10” list to report to faithful Alliance supporters. Oh, me of little faith.

Within a week, my top 10 list topped 60. By the time this issue went to press, we had more than 100 “because-you-prayed-and-gave” stories of God’s faithfulness in 2011. Here are just three:

  • A leadership couple opened a new field in Africa. They have been busy making new friends and establishing a preschool and community center in preparation for the arrival of their team in August 2012.
  • Alliance workers in the Middle East have been positioned to help meet the desperate needs of refugees fleeing from countries with political upheaval.
  • Two new fields in Asia were opened during the 2010–2011 fiscal year, staffed by 12 new workers, who are gaining entrance into the lives of spiritually parched people.

This stack of amazing stories reminded me of three things:

First, we have an outstanding team of nearly 700 GCF-funded workers who are passionate for lost people, innovative in their approaches and completely sold out to God’s highest purpose: reconciling humankind to Himself.

Second, our sacrificial gifts to the GCF are accomplishing far more than we imagined. God is supernaturally multiplying the impact and reach of our giving—because He has a “loaves and fishes” kind of love.

Most important, God neither slumbers nor sleeps. Even when we’re paying close attention, we see just a sliver of what He’s up to. “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written” (John 21:25).

As you read the stories in this issue, prayerfully consider how Jesus would want you to join Him in His work this Christmas. As He directs, please consider making an online gift to the GCF/2011 Be Light Christmas Offering at areyoulight.org/christmas.

Thank you for your ongoing faithfulness to the things closest to God’s heart. A very Merry Christmas to you and yours from the staff of alife and the leadership of The Alliance.
