Prayer is Primary

Requests from our Alliance Family

bosniaAs the refugee crisis in Europe continues, we are thankful for colleagues and local believers who choose to get involved to show Christ’s love. This spring my husband, Mark, and I traveled to the Croatian border to volunteer for a weekend, providing snacks for kids and dry socks and clean underwear to hundreds of weary travelers passing through the checkpoint.

Please pray for those who are most vulnerable on this journey—women, children, and the elderly comprise a good proportion of the flood of people trying to escape danger and hoping for a better life outside their homelands.

More than 600 young people from all over the country gathered at the campus of Gethsemane Church in Prey Chhor, Kompomg Cham, to attend the 2016 Annual Alliance Youth Conference, April 6–9. Praise God for His blessing upon this annual event! The young people came with hungry hearts to receive God’s Word through preaching and teaching. A score of attendees raised their hands and recommitted their lives to the lordship of Christ. Pray that they will follow Jesus throughout their lives no matter the cost, that they will be faithful to witness to their non-Christian peers, and that the Lord will protect them from temptation.

During our home assignment year, the church family we left in Limoges has functioned without a pastoral presence. The two young elders and other church leaders have been responsible for worship services, including preparing and preaching messages for all but one Sunday each month. A missionary colleague graciously agreed to drive two-and-a-half hours one way monthly to minister to the church. This underscores the urgent need for more full-time pastors and Christian workers throughout France. Please pray that God will call workers to shepherd His people.

We praise the Lord that He has sustained His church in Limoges. During our absence, attendance has been stable, and some new people have been added. One woman expressed recently how she appreciates more and more “this church family that is so united.” One of her unsaved friends, whom we have met, has started to attend church with her regularly. Pray that the Holy Spirit will draw this seeker to the Savior.

guineaAn exciting program at our youth center has been the Friday morning English conversation classes. About 20–30 students come weekly to discuss relevant topics. The sessions are led by Chad and his colleague Stephen, and there are always opportunities to lead discussions toward the truth of God’s Word. Pray for wisdom for Chad and Stephen as they direct these spiritual conversations and for boldness for our entire team as we seek to speak truth into these young people’s lives.
