Prayer Is Primary

As reported in the Mar/Apr 2015 issue.

West Africa

Thanks so much for your prayers! Currently, there are no new Ebola cases in our country, and it seems that the outbreak is under control.

Please pray that our nurses at the hospital will boldly share the love of Jesus with patients and families. Also, pray that God will equip me with wisdom in how to disciple our nurses—they are indeed the future of the Church in our country. Pray that He will give the hospital continued favor in the community and that people will come for medical care and also see Christ’s love.

We thank God for a motivated group of new students who are receiving training in biblical counseling. Pray especially for Zurigoo, a former shaman who is teaching four other men, two of whom are also former shamans. Pray that these men will be equipped to combat the growing influence of shamanism and other false religions.

It has been more than a year since our family moved to Paraguay. We praise the Lord for His provision and care during this transition. We are thankful for the team we work with and for the support and prayer we have received from our family, friends, and fellow workers.

Please pray for successful language acquisition for me and the kids. Though we are improving, it has been more challenging than anticipated.

Also, pray that Life Groups, a ministry that began in January, will help members of our church to mature in their faith and better connect with one another.

Classes at the vocational center include auto mechanics.

It is exciting to see God work at our vocational training center for boys and young men. Every morning, one of five men leads the devotionals. A university student volunteer teaches literacy and French, and an Alliance international worker drives an hour to the center each Thursday to teach mechanics. Every day brings new answers to prayer.

The students have much to learn, but so do we. Please pray that God fills us with creativity, faith, perseverance, understanding, wisdom, and above all, His love for these kids.

Your faithfulness in praying and giving continues to advance His Kingdom in Spain. Please pray for our national colleagues Pablo and Silvina, Raúl and Lili, and the small group that we started with them. Pray for continued growth and for successful outreach efforts. Also, pray for ongoing spiritual maturity in the Granada Church and that God will provide for the congregation’s financial needs.

Pray too for Rubens and Rut in the Canary Islands. Joel and others have been working with them to start a church in their area. Also, pray for Rosi and Agustín in Salamanca, where there is no church yet. Pray that they will persevere in teaching new believers God’s Word so that their faith will take root and grow.
