AboutFamilyWorld › Senegal

Senegal, a country of more than 13.6 million people, is one of The Alliance’s newest fields. Evangelical Christians number about one-tenth of 1 percent of the population. An Alliance team entered the country in 2006 to begin working alongside African sister churches and Alliance World Fellowship regional leaders.

The Alliance Africa Regional Office is located in the country’s capital city of Dakar along with the Dakar church-planting team, marketplace ministries, CAMA Services, and Dakar Academy. The latter is a boarding and day-school program (K–12), largely serving the children of international workers. An Alliance team also serves in a dense population center among Senegal’s largest unreached people group.

Team Initiatives

  • Minister to and care for third-culture kids, mostly the children of missionaries, who attend the school and live in the dorms
  • Utilize the gifts and talents of students to share the good news in towns and villages throughout Senegal
  • Build churches in Senegal through third-culture student involvement

Desert Springs Team

Through partnering with an established evangelical church in northwest Senegal and workers with another mission, the team seeks to develop a church-planting movement in the region, primarily among the country’s largest people group. Alliance team members serve with this small group of Senegalese believers to accomplish the work to which God has called them, including administering a young women's training school, a health clinic, a Christian reading room, kid’s clubs, and a vocational training school for young men.

In addition, the team ministers to nearly 300 street boys, who are among the thousands roaming Senegal’s streets. Relinquished by parents who can’t afford to feed them, these youngsters are given to local religious leaders, who require them to beg for their daily bread. Alliance workers seek to develop relationships with these boys and their teachers, providing medical check-ups, warm clothing, and hot meals to the youth.

Team Initiatives

  • Incarnate Jesus’ love through serving in the aforementioned areas of health and education
  • Proclaim His truth through conducting Bible studies, often using chronological Bible storytelling
  • Demonstrate His power, seeking opportunities to pray for God’s healing, deliver the demon-oppressed, and interpret dreams and visions

Dakar Church Planting Team

This team is composed of aXcess and CAMA Zending (Holland) staff members, who partner with existing national churches, ministries, and workers. They also work closely with The Breath of Life Center, the local Association of Christian Medical workers and their network of medical workers and clinics, the International Christian Fellowship of Dakar, and other creative-access ministries. This diverse team serves in Dakar and outlying areas through a variety of outreaches.

Team Initiatives

  • Evangelize and disciple key professionals in Dakar
  • Support Christian medical professionals to build a movement of Christians in healthcare who use their vocation to witness to the good news and create clinics and institutions that bless the country through healthcare
  • Empower a network of local church planters from a large unreached people group that was instrumental in the spread of the majority religion throughout West Africa
  • Work with an urban church to plant fellowships in the city and also develop Christian music that empowers the church and appeals to nonbelievers
