Relief Teams Mobilize for Superstorm Sandy

The Metropolitan District has formed a Disaster Relief Team, which has established six relief centers in Alliance churches on the frontline of the affected areas. Read more»

Spanish Eastern District

November 5, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. EST

Rev. Jorge Cuevas, district superintendent of the Spanish Eastern District of the C&MA, reports that none of their churches were destroyed. The church planter of a new work in Far Rockaway (Queens), Rev. Alvaro Glen, and seven other church members lost their homes. However, the church survived the storm and may be used as a refuge center.

Nyack College

As of Monday, November 5, all classes have resumed at the Rockland campus. Classes in Manhattan’s Battery Place facility have been temporarily relocated to the Broadway campus.

Metropolitian District Report

  • Read an update from Pastor Mike Dryburgh, who serves at King of Kings (Alliance) Community Church in Manahawkin, New Jersey.
  • Review an account from Pastor Gennadiy Zavaliy, Russian Church House of Prayer in Brooklyn, New York.

Sandy Damage Update

October 30 1:56 p.m. EST

An initial report from Dr. Bruce Terpstra, superintendent of the Metropolitan (New York) District, indicates that the Center Point Church in Bellmore, Long Island, has been damaged beyond repair and 50 families, including the pastor, may lose their homes. The Metro District is waiting for reports from other churches in the New York City area, where the most severe flooding has been reported.

Update from Nyack College/Alliance Theological Seminary:

All students, faculty, and staff are safe. Power is out indefinitely; generators at Simpson, Christie, Shuman and Boon Halls are operational; many trees are down; damage to buildings is being assessed. Thank you for praying.

Other Updates from Alliance District Personnel:

  • Minimal damage in the Mid-Atlantic District; the district office in Frederick, Md. experienced minor flooding and several downed trees; no reports of damage in Delaware, where the storm made landfall
  • No reports of damage from the Eastern Pennsylvania District
  • No reports of damage from the Northeastern District
  • No reports of damage from the Spanish Eastern District
  • No reports of damage from the New England District

As predicted, Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc along the Eastern Seaboard and as far inland as the Great Lakes.

We are in the process of gathering reports from Alliance district offices in this region and will provide details on this site as they are reported to us.

Thank you for praying for the millions affected by this catastrophic storm, particularly those in New York City and along the hardest hit coastal communities in New York and New Jersey.
