Bongolo Hospital Ministry Growing

In January 2014, Bongolo Hospital experienced a devastating fire. “Although Satan has meant this disaster to destroy and harm us,” said hospital director Keir Thelander, MD, “we know God will use this to strengthen our faith in Him and to demonstrate His glory.”

1,200-Plus Receive Christ in 2014

Hospital personnel report that God indeed has been glorified. In 2014, nearly 40,000 patients received treatment at the 158-bed medical facility in southern Gabon that employs more than 70 nationals. “Each month, more than 100 people became followers of Jesus through the hospital’s ministry,” said Alliance international workers Eric and Wendy Hofman, MD, in a recent update. Eric is a hospital accountant, and Wendy is the ophthalmology residency director.

“We are so thankful to be part of God’s work here in Gabon!” the couple added. “While the Gabonese church is still quite young, it is doing a great job of sharing Jesus with the patients and family members who come to the hospital.”

More Good News

One of Bongolo Hospital’s key ministries is its eye clinic. About 70 percent of all cataract surgeries in Gabon are performed at the hospital, in addition to other types of eye procedures. In 2014, the hospital received a significant grant from a nonchurch source to construct a new eye center.

“Because of what you have allowed God to perform through your partnership in prayer and giving,” the couple said, “we’re able to share the following testimonies of several served through the eye clinic in 2014.”
