When a second massive earthquake rocked Nepal on May 12, Compassion and Mercy Associates (CAMA) released additional funds from its Disaster Relief Fund to aid those most affected. The 7.3-magnitude temblor killed dozens and injured more than a thousand people.
Following the initial quake on April 25, which resulted in massive loss of life, widespread injuries, and extensive property damages, CAMA disbursed a gift from its Disaster Relief Fund to aid a partner in that country. Funds also were used to dispatch a CAMA staffer, a civil engineer with 10 years of experience in Nepal, to assess damages, distribute food supplies, and formulate a larger response plan.
Remote Villages Receiving Aid
CAMA’s response is now focused on providing aid to isolated villages that were cut off from receiving assistance because of damages to roads sustained from the two earthquakes.
Disaster Relief Fund monies, combined with funds from The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada, are being used to deliver tents, clothing, blankets, dry foods, and medicines to these villages by helicopter. A second phase of this response will focus on rebuilding homes in these remote communities.
