21 Days

Three weeks of health monitoring is crucial to curbing Ebola’s spread.

Ebola has resurfaced in Guinea, West Africa, epicenter of the 2014 epidemic. A Compassion and Mercy Associates (CAMA) couple works closely to share Christ’s compassion with the affected alongside Pastor Jeremie Boré, the Alliance church in Guinea’s appointee to coordinate its fight against Ebola.

Ebola has resurfaced near N’Zérékoré in southern Guinea, about 55 miles from the CAMA-cofounded Hope Medical Center. So far, there have been seven deaths.

Critical Measure

More than 900 Guineans believed to have had contact with the disease are now subject to 21 days of monitoring by health officials. This is crucial to successfully curbing Ebola’s spread.

For these individuals and families, it is three weeks too long, and a looming question haunts them: “Who will be the next person to become ill?” They fear working or visiting others; even friends stay far away.

It is 21 days of worry, 21 days of hopelessness—21 days with no appetite for food.

God of the Hopeless

“The international groups [the United Nations and other nongovernmental organizations] gave us rice, oil, and money so we would stay here during the monitoring,” said one of the affected families during our visit.

“But they did not give us the courage to prepare the food. Even if we do so, our family members have no appetite. What we really need is peace in our hearts!”

For our team, demonstrating God’s love to the affected is critical. Christ is ready to care for their burden of worry, made heavier by their feelings of hopelessness.

He alone gives hope. And where there is no courage, He is ready to comfort.

Please Pray

We are asking Christians, far and near, to intercede for:

  • God to be glorified among the hundreds who have had contact with Ebola and for those who are serving them
  • Pastor Daniel and his wife to embody God’s love as they visit those who have had contact with Ebola in Koropara (a village where the disease reappeared)
  • Pastor Moise Dopavogui and Abraham, who are visiting families in Dandano, another village where the outbreak has spread
  • My family and me as we teach and walk beside believers, bringing hope and encouragement to all who have had contact with the disease
