Aleppo Update: Keep Praying!

Plans to evacuate besieged rebel districts in Aleppo have been threatened by renewed air strikes and shelling.

(Update 12/19/16)
Despite conflicts over the terms of the cease-fire and numerous transit-related delays, evacuations of civilians and rebel forces continue. Pastor Abdallah of the C&MA church in Aleppo writes, “We are okay; church continues. Pray for us as we welcome many from East of the city. We see so many needs.”

Please continue to pray for the situation in Aleppo, Syria. After yesterday’s cease-fire agreement, renewed air strikes and shelling rocked the city. As a result, plans to evacuate besieged rebel districts have been threatened.

According to Reuters, “There was no immediate indication when the Aleppo evacuation might take place, but a [TV station report] said it could be delayed until Thursday.”

Pray that evacuation plans will move forward without further civilian casualties or deaths.

Last week, the C&MA issued an urgent call to prayer for the civil war-ravaged city of Aleppo, Syria. Earlier today, a cease-fire agreement was reached, which incuded the evacuation of rebel fighters and civilians from the city. The cease-fire is set to take effect later today.

“This is a pivotal moment in Syria’s civil war,” says CAMA, (Compassion and Mercy Associates), the relief and development arm of The Alliance. The situation remains volatile, but the cease-fire will make it easier for aid to reach those in desperate need.

CAMA remains focused on providing relief to civilians living in Aleppo or recently displaced from the city.

Thanks to all Alliance family members who interceded for the city—and praise the Lord for answering the prayers of His people! Please continue to pray

  • for the ceasefire to hold
  • for evacuees to find safe passage and secure places of refuge
  • for the C&MA church in the city, the safety of its people, the ongoing impact of its ministry, and
  • that God will use this turn of events to draw hurting people to Himself.
