Historic Flooding Crisis in the Midwest

“I was shocked by the destruction of the flooding in our community,” said Rob Storey, Alliance MidAmerica District superintendent.

Days of heavy rain and snowmelt have brought historic floods to parts of the Midwest. At least three people are confirmed dead. In Nebraska, 74 cities and 65 counties declared states of emergency as did half of Iowa’s 99 counties. Farmers have been especially hit hard.

“I was shocked by the destruction of the flooding in our community,” said Rob Storey, Alliance MidAmerica District superintendent.

Seven Alliance churches in Iowa and Nebraska are located in or on the edge of flooded communities; they have no structural damages, but a few of their families have experienced significant damage to their homes. Several of these congregations are serving their communities, providing meals and helping to purchase new water heaters and furnaces for the flood victims.

“The impact of these floods will be ongoing, not only in the rebuilding, but also in the recovery from emotional trauma for many,” Rob said.

We will keep you updated as we hear more details about how our Alliance family is responding to this crisis.

How You Can Help

Pray for a slower snowmelt to prevent additional flooding. Pray also for wisdom for relief organizations as they support flood victims and that those affected will experience the love of Christ.

CAMA, the relief and development arm of The Alliance, is raising money to support the seven affected churches as they reach out in their communities. Your gift will enable our Alliance family to tangibly show more people how much God cares for them.
