The Inspiring Faith of New Believers

How can believers seek first the Kingdom and His righteousness in a community struggling with extreme poverty?

As new believers put their trust in God, He is working mightily in their midst.

We always look forward to teaching our discipleship classes in the villages of Andong Chan and Srae Nouy. New believers attend ready to learn and eager to participate! Due to the students’ limited education, lesson content and class discussions are often geared toward oral learning.

Recently, students in my Christian family class in Andong Chan had a lively discussion, responding to the question: “How can one ‘Seek first the Kingdom and His righteousness’ while living in a community struggling with extreme poverty?”

Mrs. Rate came to our weekly discipleship class despite the urgent need to harvest her ripe crops. In answer to prayer, God held off the rains so she could attend class.

Mr. Kong responded, “We needed to visit a sick family in a remote place, but I didn’t have enough money to buy fuel for my motorbike. So, I trusted God and went; He allowed someone to pay for the gasoline I needed.”

Another woman answered, “My rice fields need to be harvested before the rains come. But attending class today is important. So I am trusting God to hold off the rains for the next few days.” And He did! We are daily amazed by the way God works among these new believers. As they continue to trust Him completely, He is moving mightily in their midst—stirring hearts and answering prayers!

“. . . Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).
