Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

Following a pastorate in Titusville, FL, we served with The Alliance for 26 years in Latin America in Colombia and Argentina, before accepting a call to pastor a church in Toronto, Canada for three years. We then served as interim pastor at Tabernaculo de la Fe church in Orlando, FL. Since January 2013 we are engaged as International Workers in Madrid, Spain in Bible Institute teaching, mentoring of leaders, and preaching. We are scheduled for our last one-year home assignment beginning July 1, 2022. We have four adult children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. (Acts 20:24, KJV)

Our ministry focus: to pour ourselves into developing leaders who live and lead like Jesus.

In one of our first field forums as newly assigned missionaries to Colombia in the 1980’s, Arnold Cook (who would later become one of my mentors) spoke on the theme of “Growing Sweet in Service.” Honestly, being in our 20’s at the time, we didn’t really understand how important that message was for all of us. Now, in our later-60’s, it seems more applicable than ever.

In Paul’s farewell to the Ephesian elders, he expresses his desire to finish the ministry course well, “with joy.” That’s the way we want to finish! Joyfully. Faithfully. Honoring Christ until He comes. By His grace, as our June 28 departure for the US looms before, we are finishing our ministry in Spain with joyful farewells and the preaching of the cross. Pray that we will finish well with joy, even as we navigate the myriad of details involved in this move.

Along with the transition of the leadership of INFORMA Bible Institute to the new director, Francisco Cerrón, in these past few weeks we have visited churches from Asturias in the far north of Spain where we shared with Pastor Pepe Mederos and wife, Loli; to the island of La Palma (where the volcano recently erupted) with newly-elected national church president Arístides Flores and his wife, Milagro. We just returned from a week in Barcelona where I was privileged to preach in three of our churches, one of them pastored by INFORMA student Fernando Vallejo and his wife, Violeta.

We’ll be sharing in churches in Madrid most Sundays until we leave. Just this last weekend, we were in the Bilingual (Spanish and Quichua) Church. The Lord brought Pastor Marcelo Guiñán from shepherding sheep in the highlands of Ecuador to shepherd this flock of God in Spain. He and his wife, María, like so many of the pastors and leaders and students with whom we have worked, are faithful servants of the Lord. While space does not permit our naming each one of these workers, their names are etched on our hearts.

So, we finish with joy here in Spain; and we look forward with expectation to beginning the next stage of life and ministry. During the next year of home assignment, we will be visiting churches and sharing about what God is doing in Spain, and what He has done in our lives during the past 40 years of service. We have arranged to rent a house on the campus of Toccoa Falls College (GA) while we search for a home to buy in the Toccoa area. Please pray with us as we walk through this major transition in our lives. We look to the Lord for next steps.

Your prayers and gifts to the Great Commission Fund of the C&MA are used by the Lord to keep us fully supplied for the work to which He has called us and our colleagues with the Alliance around the world. It remains "the backbone" of our work around the world. Great Commission Day in the month of May is an opportunity to help ensure we finish the fiscal year well. Please consider contributing that the work may go forward without budget cuts.

Thank you for standing with us.

All for Jesus Until He Comes!
