Dear friends,

Such a feeling of dread came over me as we prepared for a distribution at the local hospital. We have done these distributions many times over the years, but suddenly, I was questioning our hospital ministry. The night before the distribution, I was physically sick and thought that now I had good reason to cancel or postpone. I had already decided that we would not distribute tracts and that we would hurry through the wards, not stopping to see if anyone wanted prayer.

But at the last minute, leaving my house, I picked up a bag of brochures and getting into the car, I handed them to one of my Hallelujah women saying, “If you feel that anyone might be interested, you can give them one of these.” And off we went.

Not a very faith-filled ministry outing! Afterwards, I confessed to my friend my lack of faith. We had had one of the best distributions yet, with people running after us to ask for a tract. We had many divine appointments to pray for people seriously ill. Many times we were able to pray over a whole ward of sick children. The joy and laughter that our small gifts brought to these children will stay with me forever.

I have reflected much on this incident, trying to sort out my feelings from my faith. I want my actions to reflect my faith, not my feelings. And I certainly don’t want to miss any opportunity to share Christ and to bring hope to those who are suffering. Galatians 2:20 reads, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” And so It has become my challenge to live by faith even when feelings and emotions creep in with doubt and misgivings.

If you are struggling with a difficult thing, knowing what is right to do and yet emotions and feelings are holding you back, reflect on God’s Word and His calling. We must be those who continually crucify ourselves with Christ and live the life of faith in Him, and find that joy and peace that comes from doing His will.

Blessings,
Esther Schaeffer

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

May 13, 2022

1. We have safely arrived in Carlisle, PA for the start of our four month furlough. We are thankful for all that the Lord has done in these past months and look forward to telling you all about it!

2. This weekend is Rebekah’s graduation from Grove City College. Pray as we gather for this special event in Rebekah’s life and pray as she prepares to go to China, later this summer, to teach for two years.

3. Pray for Burkina Faso. Pray that there would be an end to the attacks. Pray for our national church that is helping many that have been displaced.

4. Ever wonder what happens to the Christmas Child boxes? A fun ending to the school year at the deaf school. When these boxes are distributed in Burkina, a pastor is always on hand to explain the love of Christ that motivates people like you to put together a special box for these children. It was a happy event at the deaf school. Thank you.

1. Pray for the young men at the detention center. Pray that the Word of God would sink into their hearts. We are thankful to be able to visit them each week and speak truth into their lives.

2. Pray for a youth gathering this weekend. Pray as we share truths on knowing God’s will and speak into the challenges that young people are facing in Burkina.

3. We need prayer for a project to renew the chapel at the hospital. It has fallen into disrepair and we are at the point of thinking it should be leveled and another church built that could possibly be two stories. It is a building that gets lots of use and helps many patients that arrive at the hospital with nothing. Pray with us as we look to see what part we might have in making this happen.

4. These are happy, sad days. Monday we had the closing for our women’s program at the Bible School. We are always amazed at what the Lord does in the lives of these women, but also sad that our time together will end. Pray as some are going to difficult areas to plant churches. And yes, every pastor’s wife should have a red purse! Our gift to the graduates.
